The Grand America Hotel, the flagship of the Grand America Hotel and Resorts, has been committed to excellence and customer service since the original Little America opened in 1934. In an effort to maintain our high level of quality and service we are pleased to share with you our Environmental Procedures and Green Initiatives.

Energy Use

  • Our housekeeping staff can be instructed to shut blinds, adjust the heat/air conditioning and turn off lights while attendees are in meetings to ensure energy is being used efficiently.
  • Reusable amenity program available upon guests’ request.
  • In an effort to reduce the Grand Americas carbon footprint high commodity items are purchased locally, allowing for less fossil fuel and distribution by-products. Our Pastry Kitchen helps in our effort to reduce the carbon footprint by using local organic flours and producing, on property, such items as breads, pastries, bagels, muffins and cookies.
  • We have received the highest level of energy conservation initiative rebates from Rocky Mountain Power since 2003, this is currently 80% of kilowatts per hours saved.
Waste Management
  • We utilize a commercial grade trash compacting program to minimize our contribution to landfill space.
  • Recycling program (recycling paper, plastic, glass, aluminum cans and cardboard) for entire hotel including sleeping rooms and meeting space.
  • By using glass, china, linen table clothes and napkins in guest rooms, banquet facilities and restaurants the Grand America Hotel is able to minimize our waste.
  • All restaurant and banquet facilities use reusable condiment dishes allowing for less waste of plastic and glass containers and food.
  • Reusable amenity program implemented ensuring our housekeeping staff will not replace consumable amenities daily unless they are gone.
  • We purchase in quantities tightly based on “contracted” food and beverage functions so food waste is kept to a minimum.
  • While having over 74,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, we have no more freezer space than a large restaurant, as we believe in fresh, not frozen.
Water Conservation
  • All Public area restrooms are equipped with sensor faucets and toilets minimizing water flow.
  • Low flow in-room showerheads (2.5 gl per minute).
  • Reusable linen program available upon guests’ request.
  • On site laundry facility allows the Grand America Hotel to monitor and control water usage.
Environmentally Preferred Cleaning Supplies
  • Cleaning supplies are purchased from Eco-Logic Solutions. Supplies are bio-degradable and reduce the environmental imprint that standard chemicals produce.
Other “Earth” Friendly Measures
  • We Are Smoke Free, in accordance with the Utah Indoor Clean Air Act smoking is prohibited inside or within twenty five feet of the building.
  • In an effort to ensure our level of excellence, our sales and catering staff will customize Hotel events to fit our client’s environmental needs.
  • The Grand and Little America Hotels recycled 131 tons of material by-product in 2006 and 150 tons in 2007. Our goal is to increase our recyclable waste an additional 15% or 172 tons for 2008.
